" McRae, views his models with a cool detachment. Different to normal staged portraiture, he freezes his subjects at that moment when they have forgotten his presence, when they are not thinking of how they might later be perceived by the viewer. He also presents a different viewpoint to the commonly held notion about male nude photography, that the photographer and his model are also sexual partners, McRae's work so obviously free of any further need for implication, neatly side-steps the issue."
