After
having worked during seven years in the United States, Alexis Strelitz
returned to the Parisian artistic scene in 2002.
His first exposure in November 1992 “Brewery Tango” to the Coupole in Montparnasse, expressing the fever of the world of the night.
It was noticed by the Parisian press (Pariscope, Paris Capitale
Magazine, Marie-Claire Decoration, tropical FM).
Strongly
influenced by the example of Herman Hesse, and continuing in the great
family tradition of adventures, Strelitz traveled the world, learning
various cultures and their languages.
His thirst for adventure and humanistic search has had an extremely
major impact on his art.
After short studies of an appraiser at Christie’s in London,
Strelitz left for San Francisco in 1987 painting backdrops in Theatre.
In 1989 returned to Paris as an assistant to a production company.
In 1990, Strelitz mets a whole Russian artistic community that
immigrated to squat, street Juliette Dodu.
It is frequented by artists such as Rabine, Jarky and Kvostenko,
which he feels determined his career.
Strelitz
is connected to the expressionist school:
Goya and Beckman, and Grosz and, Schnabel are his masters of
absurdity and grotesque .
Strelitz reconciles technical, traditional and extreme subjects of
topicality such as the flight of minority, destruction of the Amazonian
forest, extermination of the Indians of Brazil.
He uses solar colors, strong compositions and broad volumes to
illustrate these topics mixing images that share compassion and irony
Jorge
Navarro a choreographer whom had an establishment in the Village called
Allegrias induced his 2000 show in Atelier International in the heart of Soho NYC.
It brought to Strelitz rebirth of culture flamenco “American
Flamenco” a narrative series, highlighting the message and carrying
Flamenco: love, death, sex, and exclusion.
An Hispanic heritage, which cuts through a vigorous path through
glass and the concrete of the Anglo-Saxon culture.
The series was then on tour
in Europe and an exhibition at Galerie Say in 9th district of Paris
in 2002.
Strelitz is currently
working on a new body of work from his adventure in Mauritania, Africa
called "A Tea Party in Africa" which will be on exhibition at
Atelier International Gallery in Harlem in February of 2005.
